Optimum Biometric Labs launches the BioUptime Appliance

Karlskrona, Sweden, January. 3, 2008 - Optimum Biometric Labs (OBL) launches its flagship platform, the BioUptime Appliance, after years of intense research and development. The product is a monitoring system aimed for increasing the value of biometric solutions considering operational reliability, availability and maintainability.

Optimum Biometric Labs successfully completed first round of financing

Optimum Biometric Labs, OBL, successfully completed its first round of financing. The new investor team includes two seed capital firms and two private investors.

The capital will be used to strengthen our position in the After Sales market where maintainability of biometric devices and ID systems is the key to successfully meet Service Level Agreements.” says Babak Goudarzi Pour CEO of Optimum Biometric Labs.

OBL CEO to chair panel debate in Brussels

Optimum Biometric Labs CEO Mr Babak Goudarzi Pour will chair the public/end-users panel on the 2nd EBF/JRC Research Seminar in Brussels.

Key new policies on future research in biometrics relating to the large scale implementation of passports, visas and ID card programmes to provide for a safer and more secure Europe will be discussed by leading policymakers from the European Commission at the 2nd Research Seminar in Brussels on Wednesday, 4 October, co-hosted by the European Biometrics Forum (EBF) and the European Commissions Joint Research Centre (JRC).

The theme of the Seminar is ‘Requirements for a Safer Europe: Implications for European R&D in Biometrics’. The event will bring together experts from four key sectors, Policy, Research, Industry and Public/Users to discuss future research projects in Europe, current implementations of biometric projects and issues arising from these implementations such as privacy matters and conformity to international standards.

The European Commission's Jacques Bus, Herbert Von Bose, Alois Sieber, Frank Paul and Gûnter Schumacher will all address the Seminar. Marek Rejman-Greene from the UK’s Home Office and Peter Schaar, the German Data Protection Commissioner will also speak at the event.

The one day seminar on will be looked at from the perspective of four different sectors

* The policy panel will look at the current status of European large scale id-management systems and how issues such as interoperability, conformity and standards are working in practice.
* The research panel will examine the best methods to promote and facilitate the development of world-class R&D, performance evaluation and standards.
* The industry panel will discuss how industry can facilitate the development of a strong and competitive market in the European Union’ and
* The public/end-users panel will look at the impact of biometrics enabled ID-management systems on civil rights.

Meanwhile, the European Biometrics Forum is delighted to announce the final of the EBF European Biometric Research Award 2006, a prestigious award which will be made annually to an individual who has been judged by a panel of internationally respected experts to be making a significant contribution to the field of biometrics research in Europe. Three talented PhD students will present their Research Paper to the audience at the Seminar and a winner will be announced subsequently.

Dr Alois Sieber from the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre said “ This important research event provides a unique opportunity for all sectors of the biometrics community to be updated on relevant R&D projects and ongoing implementations in members states”.

Max Snijder, CEO of the EBF commented; “Research is critical for the future development of biometrics, especially now that the end user requirements are becoming more evident. We need to know in what direction the policy on research should go in order to spend money and resources effectively. A high level dialogue, such as provided by the EBF by organizing this research seminar, is essential to get alignment between the various stakeholders and to manage their mutual expectations.”
