Venture Cup step 3 2005

Optimum Biometric Labs both submissions to this contest were chosen as to be among the 10 best out of 49 submissions for this final step of the Venture Cup competition.

Venture Cup step 2 2005
OBL won Venture Cup step 2 with Automatic Detection of Diabetic Retinopathy and was nominated with Optimum Precon (BioUptime). The market plan for the two business ideas was judged in this step.

OBL won Venture Cup step 1 with Automatic Detection of Diabetic Retinopathy and was nominated with Optimum Precon (BioUptime).

OBL received the ALMI Innovation Prize and was a finalist in the Skapa Foundation Award.

Babak Goudarzi Pour, Co-founder, CEO

Babak has served as the Chairman of the Swedish National Biometric Association, SNBA, since its inception in 2004. He also works as Swedish technical expert in the international standardization work ISO/IEC/JTC 1/SC 37 and its expert groups WG2 and WG5 with specialization on Biometric-technical interface and Biometric-testing and reporting. He has frequently chairing industry panels in Bussels coordinated by the European Commission/Joint Research Center (JRC) and European Biometric Forum (EBF).

Babak's breakthrough started in 2003 when he was invited to guest lecture at the Biometrics Identification seminar held by Dr. James L Wayman at the UCLA. He presented his multiple

award-winning work “Facial Recognition Biometrics, applying new concepts in performance improvement and quality assessment” for representatives of FBI, DoD and DHS. Babak holds a M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Signal Processing and Telecommunications from Blekinge Institute of Technology.

Victor Adolfsson, Co-founder, CTO

Victor holds a M.Sc.in Software Engineering and a B.Sc. in Business Administration. Earlier positions include being system developer at Ercosys Mobile, Spain and CTO of Marketflow Inc., USA. Was a member of the board in Studentbolaget AB and have had positions in various academic committees such as the Research Board of Blekinge Institute of Technology. Victor also has working experience from Aspiro (mobile applications) and IP@Home (developing software platforms for households). Victor was awarded from Sparbankstiftelsen Kronan for his bachelor thesis in business administration which put information security in a business perspective. Victor is responsible for financials, administration, attracting venture capital and is working with system development of BioUptime® and Faceum®.
